Japan Major Report - Japan Occupier Survey 2018 August 2018
An increasing number of companies in Japan are implementing the free address system. According to CBRE’s Office Occupier Survey, the percentage of occupiers who have either implemented the free address approach or are planning to do so has increased from 29% to 47% during the last two and a half years.
The most commonly selected reasons given for implementing a free address office plan fell under the “productivity or work style” category. Reasons include: to increase productivity; to promote flexible working styles; and to encourage collaboration. Interestingly, relatively few respondents selected reasons under the cost suppression category (e.g. lowering running costs, cutting capital expenditure) as a driver for adopting an agile workplace.
The free address model is one method to create a flexible working environment. From our survey, occupiers who have implemented free address (or are planning to do so) are also more likely to be utilizing or implementing other means such as business process outsourcing, shared offices, and telecommuting.
